4A - Barb Culbertson

This is my eighth year teaching here, at IHM. For the last seven years, I taught fourth grade religion and social studies. This year I will be teaching religion to fourth graders. I have taught eleven additional years in Ohio, Oklahoma, and Kentucky. My bachelor’s degree was attained at Ohio State University in elementary education, grades K-8. I received my Master’s degree at Northern Kentucky University in early education, grades K- 6.

My teaching experiences started when I was about nine years old. Being one of eight children, with five being younger, I spent unending hours playing school. My dad’s career was in the Air Force, which meant moving from one end of this awesome country to the other, with many places in between. This is probably the main reason I loved teaching social studies.

Religion is a subject close to my heart, which relates to my religious experiences growing up. This included attending a few parochial elementary schools. My husband, Dwight and I relocated to the Northern Kentucky area when our two children, Nova and Adam, were in elementary school. We were blessed to find IHM and have been parishioners ever since. Our children attended IHM and presently two of our six grandchildren also attend IHM. I have always had a strong belief in the values and morals taught in a catholic school environment along with the academics achieved. I truly feel blessed to be a member of the IHM faculty.

4A - Karen Gutzeit

I am the 5th grade religion teacher. I am in my second year of teaching at IHM and in my thirteenth year as the youth minister at IHM. I have taught for 15 years and 4 years as high school counselor/special education coordinator. I have a teaching certificate for K-12 in special education, K-8th in regular education with endorsement in preschool and 20 hours towards Rank One in counseling. I attended UK for two and finished my bachelor’s in regular/special education at NKU, Master’s at NKU in special education, and Xavier University for counseling. I grew up in Erlanger, graduated from Lloyd Memorial High School and attended St. Henry Parish. I have six children, the last three we adopted, Jessica (25) married to DJ Leisl, Nathan (16), Zach (15), Desi (10), Kayla (6), Kelly (3). I teach because I love children and God and want to serve Him by bringing teens closer to Christ.
