4B - Anita France
My name is Anita France, and I teach 4th grade math and science. This is my 17th year at IHM, and my 18th year teaching in the diocese. During the 15 years I stayed home with my children, I taught and coordinated the Sunday preschool religion classes at my home parish of Sts. Boniface and James in Ludlow. I was also a member of the school board at Prince of Peace School in Covington from 1988-2001, and served as the chairperson for part of that time. I Attended Thomas More College and received my BA in education in 1979. I received my MA in education from NKU in 1986. I continued my education at NKU to earn my Rank 1 in math and science in 2006. I have a lifetime teaching certificate in the state of Kentucky for grades 1-8.
I grew up in Covington and attended St. Augustine School, then went on to graduate from Notre Dame Academy in 1975. I married my husband Tom in 1979. We have 4 wonderful children. Our oldest son, Andy, is a pharmacist and is married to his wife, Ginny, who is also a pharmacist. They have given me 2 wonderful grandchildren. Linda just turned 4 in October, and Tommy turned 2 in December. Our second child, Katie, is also a pharmacist and is married to Jon, who is a specialist in the Army Reserves. Katie is expecting our third grandchild, due in February. Our third child, Jennifer, is in her 4th year of medical school at UK, and will graduste with an MD in May. Our youngest child, Daniel, is in his 3rd year of Pharmacy School also at UK.
I love teaching here at IHM. Teaching is something I have always wanted to do. When I was in grade school, I used to play school with my friends and I always wanted to be the teacher. I did service work in schools as a high school student. I love seeing the “light bulb” moment when a student finally gets the concept I am presenting. I look forward to many more years of guiding the students of IHM.
