1B - Shelly Griner

This is my third year teaching first grade at Immaculate Heart of Mary School. My previous experience has been teaching kindergarten, first and third grade. This is my tenth year of teaching, and I have always taught in Catholic Schools. I earned both my Bachelors and Masters degrees at Northern Kentucky University. I earned my masters degree as a Reading Specialist. I am certified to teach kindergarten through sixth grade.

I was born in Kentucky, but moved to Ohio at the age of six. My family and I currently live in Batavia Ohio, which is very close to Eastgate Mall. My husband, Andrew and I have been blessed with three wonderful daughters. They are 12, 9, and 7 years old. We love to take trips to the beach, and spend many hours outdoors.

When I was a senior, I worked in a nearby elementary school with kindergarteners and first graders. From that moment on, I knew I was meant to teach. I love teaching because I get the opportunity to make a difference in the life of a young child each and every day. It is also the most rewarding career. The growth that I get to witness in my little first graders in one year is truly amazing. Each year is a new challenge, and I have been given the gift of unlocking many new doors to eager, energetic, young minds. I am also blessed with the opportunity to share my faith with my students and teach them many new things about their religion.
