Art - Paula Kirn

I have been the art teacher for Immaculate Heart of Mary for the past 16 years, has the pleasure of teaching every student at IHM, at least once a week.

I grew up in Northern Kentucky, loving art for as long as I can remember. As a young girl, I had the opportunity to study under Eileen McCarthy, a student of Duveneck, the well-known, accomplished artist from this area. I excelled in the art and design program at Central Academy of Commercial Art, winning “Best of Show” in her senior year.

Before I started my teaching career, I was an Addy Award-winning art director with a top regional advertising agency, creating ads and collateral materials for financial and B2B clients.

Many of my students continually win awards with projects created in class. For the last five years, IHM students have won in the art division of the Diocese of Covington Academic Competition. I display many of the students’ art in the hall, near the art room, for all to enjoy.

I believe art should be a fun experience while learning art concepts and an appreciation of the Masters. She and her husband enjoy good times with their daughters, sons-in-law and grandson.
