Dear 8^th Grade Parents;

          The month has gone by very quickly, but we have been busy.  We are continuing our unit of the Underground Railroad.  We will close this unit with an 8^th grade project.  Each student in each class will design a quilt square based on this unit and the cloths will be pieced together to form a quilt.   I think this may turn out to be a very impressive project and of great value to the students.

          I have scheduled a visit to the U.G.R.R. Freedom Center for 10/28/08.  Please remember to return the permission forms.  We will be limited by time and won’t see everything.  If possible, I recommend a family visit to the Center.  Other possible sites to see for extra credit are the Rankin and Parker houses in Ripley, Ohio.  Both homes were very important locations on the Underground Railroad.  

          Our next unit will be a study of the Civil War period.  There are also many historic sites in this area located to this period.  I enjoy the time I spend with these students and know they look forward to Camp Joy.  Call if there are any questions or concerns.
