WALK A THON – FRIDAY, OCTOBER 3RD

Walk A Thon is the schools biggest fundraiser.  If you haven’t reviewed the paperwork from the last Newsletter folder please look it over and send in the necessary information.  The PTO is looking for 100% participation from IHM School families.  While PTO sponsors other fundraisers this is the only event that everyone is asked to walk and financially support.  Please be generous.  All funding goes back to the school.

Walk A Thon Money turn in Dates to remember:

To be entered into the early bird drawing….

ALL monies must be turned in by Friday, September 26th.

The drawing will take place on September 29th.

All pledges must be received by October 13th.  This will help PTO close out the event financially.

CATS   CLARIFICATION

In the September 10, 2008 issue of The Enquire, there was an article titled CATS: School Test Results in for all the N.Ky. Districts (B4).  I would like to clarify the CATS that the state of Kentucky utilizes.

CATS in Kentucky stands for Commonwealth Accountability Testing System.  This is not the same test that our Diocesan Schools utilize each spring.  The CAT that the diocesan schools utilize is the California Achievement Test.  The Commonwealth Accountability Test is a district test not an individual student test.  The scores are not compatible.                                                                                          Mike Jacks

FIRST AID CLASS-DATE CHANGE-NEED VOLUNTEERS

Due to the early departure from school on the 29th of September, the dates of the Basic Aid Training from Sep 29, 30 & Oct 1 have been changed to Sep 30, Oct 1 & 2.  It will continue to be from 2:30 - 4:30 PM.  However, we do not have any parental volunteers at this time ... so it may be cancelled due to that fact.  One adult for each class is needed to be with Deacon Jim.  Contact Jim if you are able to help supervise.  689-5010 X 223

STUDENTS’ SAFETY/VISITING RIGHTS

We continue to strive to keep our school safe on a daily basis.  All visitors are required to sign-in and wear a Visitor’s badge.   Families having specific issues such as visiting rights are asked to contact the school office.  Copies of the court document will be placed in your child’s record.  Other than a legal guardian, all visitors must have prior written permission to visit.  Please be sure to send in written permission for visitors at least two days in advance.  If we do not have your written permission, the visitor will not be able to come into the school building.

TASTER’S –NEED DONATIONS OF SMALL TRINKETS, FOOD ITEMS

Cheryl Wiseman is chairing the Grab Bag for Taster's and if anyone has any items they'd like to donate, please contact her at 859-282-0006.

PARENT VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Several enrichment programs are being worked on at the school and we need your assistance!!  Each activity requires supervision.  We can offer these opportunities only if we have parent volunteers to monitor.  The programs and sign up sheet are in the newsletter folder.  Please consider being a volunteer for one of the programs.

MARK YOUR CALENDAR FOR THE PARISH BONFIRE:  SATURDAY, OCTOBER 4TH AFTER THE 5 PM MASS.

PARENT/TEACHER CONFERENCE DATES CHANGED TO JANUARY 15 & 16

The end of the second quarter is on January 9th and report cards will be sent home on January 14.  The conference dates scheduled on February 5th and 6th would not give an overall view of your child’s progress.  It was important to have the report cards and conferences coincide.  For this reason our School Calendar is changing.  February 5th and 6th will be “normal” school days.   On Thursday, January 15 there will be conferences from 5-8 PM.  School will be in session on January 15.  On Friday, January 16 conference will be from 9-2 PM.  School is closed on January 16.

Parents will sign up for a ten-minute conference with a student in grades K-4.

Parents with a student in grades 5-8 will have a ten-minute conference on a first come basis.  It is mandatory that parents meet with their child’s teacher.

IHM Cross-Country Meet – Sept. 19 & Sept. 26  4:15 PM –
Boone Woods-Don’t forget to register Cost $7.00

Students in grades 1-5 don’t forget to sign up for the two cross-country meets.  The cost is $7.00 and is a fundraiser for the 8th grade.  A registration form was in the last Newsletter folder.  If you need another form please contact Jan Dooley or the school office.

MORNING DROP OFF

In an attempt to expedite morning drop off, cars may be directed to the upper lot so that your children can exit the car and go into the main door/gather space. (Even if you are the only car, drivers should go all the way down to the end of the building for drop off.)  Please realize that not ALL cars will be directed to this area. By turning on your left blinkers Pat will TRY and wave you in to the upper lot.  When traffic is heavy you may have to proceed to the lower level.   Please be extra cautious driving in the top bus lane because many pedestrians are using that lane to come into the building.

After the buses begin to arrive no cars may enter the first parking lane.

If you have younger children Grades Preschool thru 3 you want to continue to drop off your child/children in the lower lot.  As you leave the upper lot please be aware of other cars merging.

BOONE COUNTY SPRING SOCCER SIGN-UP

Have questions?  Contact Adelle Nichols at 525-1070

NEED A SPECIAL GIFT – PICTURE PENDANTS

Once again, we are offering the pendant with personal pictures of your family, children, grandchildren, cat, dog etc.  This makes a wonderful Christmas or birthday gift.  Why not surprise a loved one with a lovely necklace.  Some of the proceeds will be given to Ed Colina’s African Mission.  Detailed information about the pendants may be found in the newsletter folder.

Any donations can be made to: IHM Mission Fund, 5876 Veterans Way, Burlington, KY 41005.   If you can donate, put the donations with Ed’s name on the check or envelope.
