Lord, Make Me an Instrument of Your PEACE! PREP, Grades 1 – 5, Catechetical Theme 2022/23
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness & self-control. Against such things there is no law.” (Galatians 5:22-23)
Just like physical fruit needs time to grow, the fruit of the Spirit in us will not ripen overnight. Like a successful gardener must battle against weeds to enjoy the sweet fruit he desires, we must constantly work to rid our lives of the “weeds” of our sinful nature that wants to choke out the works or fruit of the Spirit.
The Bible calls Spirit-led behavior the “fruit of the Spirit”. The fruit of the Spirit has visible results. These qualities begin to show themselves in our lives when we allow ourselves to be filled with the Spirit of God & his fruits.
As we give the Spirit more control in our lives, he begins to do in & through us only what he can do – to shape us & grow us to look & be more like Jesus. Since God’s goal for all his children is for us to be like Jesus (Romans 8:29), the Holy Spirit constantly works to produce in us the fruits of his Spirit which shape our character in becoming more Christlike.
This PREP year we will be focusing month by month on one of the Fruits of the Spirit & how we can grow that particular fruit in our lives by cooperating with God’ grace.
What a great year it will be if we could begin to show, demonstrate & experience the fruits of the Spirit in our daily lives. That will be our goal as we move forward through PREP, 2022 -23.
~ LOVE, shows tenderness & kindness to others.
~ JOY, we can be joyful even in the midst of trials, a spirit of gladness in our circumstances.
~ PEACE, the peace of God, will guard our hearts & minds in Christ Jesus.
~ PATIENCE, the more Christ-like we become the more patient we will become with others.
